Commonwealth Games 2014: UPDATE

The benefits of Glasgow hosting the 2014 Commonwealth Games are beginning to show, with some early investments in the City. Some affordable flats are being built on derelict land in Beechgrove Road, in a deal between Glasgow City Council and the Stewart & McKenna Group.

It is estimated that in 2014, Glasgow will attract well over one million visitors and the Commonwealth Games could have a potential television audience of a billion viewers.

Meanwhile, the East End of Glasgow is changing slowly, with derelict land earmarked for development. Glasgow City Council are in negotiations with the Travellers, showground people who travel around the country, but who reside in the East End and whose children go to local schools, A lot of the Travellers static caravans are parked up in Dalmarnock Road - right in the heart of the proposed Games Village.

Let's hope that the negotiations between the Council and the Scottish branch of the Showmen's Guild come to a satisfactory conclusion for all concerned.
